Snow forecast Sunday night for Catalina, Rincon mountains
Although temperatures topped 90 degrees in the city on Friday, Tucsonans could wake up to a sparkling white vista of nearby mountain ranges covered with snow on Monday morning. A winter weather advisory says 3-8 inches could fall in some areas, down to about 7,000 feet.
There will be scattered valley rains throughout Southern Arizona on Sunday night, with temperatures in lower areas struggling to rise out of the 50s on Monday.
The snowy forecast covers the Santa Catalina and Rincon ranges, as well as the Galiuro and Pinaleño mountains and the White Mountains in Graham and Greenlee counties.
Drivers should plan on slippery roads in affected areas, the National Weather Service said, noting that hiking and driving on unmaintained roads in the backcountry is "likely to be hazardous."
"Travel could be difficult at times. Slow down," NWS said. "Expect wintry driving conditions in the mountains."
