YWCA to help bundle up women, children with free winter coats

While the mercury may still be hovering in the mid-80s, the Tucson branch of the YWCA is looking ahead to chillier times. The group will offer free winter coats next week for women and children.

The "500 Coats, 5 Hours" giveaway will provide new clothing beginning Wednesday at 10 a.m., thanks to a donation from Burlington Coat Factory. The event will be held at the groups headquarters, 525 N. Bonita Ave., just west of the Santa Cruz River near Downtown.

"There are some really lovely, warm coats that women can also look extremely professional wearing," said Tana Kelch, the marketing manager for YWCA.

About 20 percent of the coats are child-sized, Kelch said.

The coats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and adults must be present to receive a coat, Kelch said.
