Border Patrol agent shoots across border near Naco
A Border Patrol agent fired into Mexico early Monday morning, saying that he saw that a person across the fence pointing a weapon at him, Customs and Border Protection said.
CBP said the agent was taking a person into custody on the U.S. side of the fence around 6:25 a.m. when he saw a person in Mexico point what he believed was a firearm at him.
"Feeling his life was in danger, the agent discharged his service-issued firearm at the subject," the agency said.
The agency said it did not know if anyone was hit by the agent's gunfire.
U.S officials will be working closely with Mexican authorities to determine if anyone was hit, the agency said.
