Yuma BP agents arrest 12, seize $450K in marijuana

Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrested 12 men Friday morning after they were spotted walking through an isolated stretch of desert near Dateland, Arizona, carrying backpacks loaded with nearly $450,000 in marijuana, authorities said.

Around 10 a.m., agents from the Wellton Station spotted men in camouflage hiking through a remote area about three miles south of the Sentinel rest area, carrying what appeared to be backpacks of marijuana, said Richard Withers, a spokesman for Border Patrol's Yuma Sector.

Agents responded, arrested the men and seized the marijuana, Withers said.
