Pulverize paperwork piles at Saturday shred-a-thon
If you've got mountains of old bills and personal files crowding you out, take a few boxes to be shredded at a free event Saturday morning.
You can dispose of up to five boxes of paperwork at a drive-through shed-a-thon being held by the Pima County Sheriff's Department and Shred-It at Cienega High School, 12775 East Mary Ann Cleveland Way.
The event will be held 8-11 a.m., or until the trucks holding shredded documents are full, organizers said.
"Identity theft has quickly become one of the most costly crimes happening today," PCSD Deputy Tracy Suitt said. "By shredding old documents, you can decrease the chances of thieves stealing and assuming your identity."
You don't even have to leave your car to have documents shredded — an attendant will transfer them to a bin for processing, Suitt said. Documents won't be accepted from businesses, he said.
If you have questions about the shred-a-thon, call the PCSD Community Resources Unit at 351-4615.
