Clean Elections legislative debates Wednesday: LD10, LD14

State House candidates for LD10 and LD14 will debate Wednesday evening in the last legislative debates between Southern Arizona candidates hosted by the Clean Elections Commission.

The LD10 debate will see state House candidates Todd Clodfelter (R), Stefanie Mach (D), Ted Vogt (R) and Bruce Wheeler (D) answering written questions from the audience.

Frank Antenori (R) and David Bradley (D) are running for state Senate, but have not confirmed their attendance, said Daniel Ruiz, spokesman for the Clean Elections Commission.

The debate will be at the Pima Community College District Office, 4905 E. Broadway. Candidates will debate in the Community Board Room, C-105, beginning at 6 p.m.

Legislative District 10 runs from midtown Tucson to the far East Side and covers the area between the Coronado National Forest boundary on the north and Valencia Road on the south. The area includes the Tanque Verde, Park Place, Civano, El Encanto and San Clemente neighborhoods.

Clodfelter, who is receiving $21,533 in Clean Elections public campaign funds, is required to attend the debate. Other candidates using private campaign funds like Mach, Vogt and Wheeler are allowed to participate and will be debating, Ruiz said.

The LD14 debate, which was rescheduled due to Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever's memorial service, will be at Benson's City Council Chambers, 120 W. 6th St. The district includes Cochise, Graham and Greenlee counties and covers the southeast corner of the state.

State House candidates participating in the debate will be David Gowan (R), Robert Leach (D), David Stevens (R) and Mark Stonebraker (D). Pat Fleming (D) and Gail Griffin (R), candidates running for state Senate, will also be attending. Candidates receiving Clean Elections campaign funds - Fleming, Leach and Stonebraker - are required to attend.

All participants will be answering written questions submitted by the audience. Topics that are generally discussed include energy, the economy and education along with other issues, Ruiz said.

A list of candidates can be found on the Clean Elections website.
