Two men struck by SUV on North Side

  • PCSD

Two men were struck by an SUV on Thursday night while crossing a North Side street, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.

Shortly before 7 p.m., Foothills District deputies were dispatched to the scene of a collision at North Flowing Wells Road and West Allegheny Street, between Wetmore and River roads, PCSD Deputy Tracy Suitt said.

When deputies arrived, they learned the men were crossing North Flowing Wells Road when they were struck by the
southbound SUV, Suitt said.

One man in his 30s suffered life-threatening injuries and was in critical condition, said Suitt. The other man, who is in his 50s, was in serious but stable condition. Both men were transported by ambulance to Banner-University Medical Center Tucson.

"The men were crossing the street in an area with no street lights or crosswalk," Suitt said in a news release.

Alcohol was a factor in the collision, but the driver of the car was not impaired, he said.
