An elderly man missing since August 4 was found dead in his truck in a remote desert area after being spotted from a Border Patrol helicopter on Wednesday morning, authorities said. Robert Crubaugh was last seen alive on a sweltering weekend day.
Crubaugh was found in his black Chevy Trailblazer just before noon, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman said. The vehicle was spotted from a BP chopper, which contacted a PCSD deputy deployed in the area as part of Operation Stonegarden.
Crubaugh was last seen driving a black Chevy Trailblazer with a wheelchair rack near Bopp and San Joaquin roads —on the west side of the Tucson Mountains, just north of Ryan Airfield — on the morning of Saturday, August 4.
The investigation into Crubaugh's disappearance and death is ongoing, PCSD Deputy James Allerton said Wednesday.
