Man wanted in fatal hit-and-run arrested

A summary of Border Patrol activities in the Tucson Sector since Friday, provided by U.S. Customs and Border Protection:

Arrests

Naco Station agents arrested a Mexican national Friday who was wanted for a fatal hit-and-run in Florida. The West Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for the 35-year-old man in 2001. Charges included driving without a license and causing serious bodily injury/death. The man was transferred to the Tucson Police Department for extradition to Florida.

Naco Station agents arrested a 31-year-old Mexican national Monday who had a warrant by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office for transporting marijuana. The man was being processed for formal removal and extradition.

In a separate incident Monday, Naco agents arrested a 35-year-old Mexican national for illegal entry. A background check showed the man was convicted for rape in California. The man was held for federal prosecution.

Also on Monday, Naco agents apprehended a 26-year-old illegal immigrant from Chihuahua, Mexico, who was attempting to smuggle 186 pounds of marijuana into the United States. During processing, the man was identified as a member of the Paisas gang. He was being prosecuted on federal drug charges and faces deportation.

Casa Grande Station agents apprehended a 24-year-old from Mexico for illegal entry Monday. The man admitted to being a member of the 18th Street gang and a background check revealed he was convicted of several felonies including grand theft, accessory to robbery, illegal entry, and transporting or selling a controlled substance. He was being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney.s Office for re-entry of an aggravated felon.

Recovery

Ajo Station agents discovered human remains in the West Desert on Monday in the Organ Pipe National Monument. The investigation was turned over to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
