Border Patrol wrapup: 4 picked up had prior records

A summary of Border Patrol activities in the Tucson Sector over the weekend, provided by U.S. Customs and Border Protection:

Arrests

On Friday, Douglas Station agents apprehended a 51-year-old Mexican national for illegally entering the United States. During processing, agents discovered the man had an extensive criminal record including convictions for sexual battery, possession of a firearm, theft, and cultivating marijuana. He is being criminally prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for re-entry of an aggravated felon.

Later that night, Douglas agents apprehended a 29-year-old man from Mexico who had a prior conviction for cruelty towards a child and misdemeanor battery (family violence) in March 2007. He will be processed for prosecution.

Also Friday, Ajo Station agents arrested a 51-year-old man from Honduras for illegally entering the United States. During processing, it was revealed he had a prior conviction child abuse in Miami, Fla. He is being criminally prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for re-entry of an aggravated felon.

On Saturday, Naco Station agents apprehended a 36-year-old man from Mexico illegally present in the United States. During processing, agents discovered he had been convicted in Santa Ana, Calif., for sexual intercourse with a minor in March 2004. He is being criminally prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for re-entry of an aggravated felon.

All aliens apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using a fingerprint identification system, which accesses criminal records throughout the United States.

Rescues

Friday, Ajo Station agents worked with Yuma Sector's Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue (BORSTAR) team to transport a subject suffering from severe dehydration. The man was treated by agents at the scene and transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Sunday, Casa Grande agents were flagged down by a female U.S. citizen in the West Desert area who said she was feeling ill and had been vomiting. Agents contacted emergency medical services and she was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Also Sunday, agents assigned to the Ajo Station received a call regarding an illegal immigrant lost southwest of Ajo. The Mexican national was medically evaluated by BORSTAR agents before he was transported to the Ajo Station for processing and removal.
