Sun Tran strike: Free downtown parking for bus pass holders

ParkWise has opened two downtown parking lots to current bus pass holders for the duration of the Sun Tran strike.

The lots, at Interstate 10 and Congress and Stone Avenue and Sixth Street, hold nearly 350 cars.

“Part of the mission of ParkWise is to enhance alternate modes of transportation, so we feel it’s appropriate to give regular Sun Tran riders this option until a settlement has been reached,” said Chris Leighton, ParkWise director, in a press release.

Those who wish to park free must clearly display their current Sun Tran bus pass on their driver’s side dashboard. Failure to display the pass could result in a citation.

Teamsters Local 104 voted Sunday to reject a contract offered by Professional Transit Management, the private company that operates Sun Tran for the city.
