Padres top Bees 4-3
Jason Lane earned his second straight win for the Padres as Tucson defeated the Salt Lake Bees 4-3 on Monday at Kino Stadium. The Padres won the series against the Bees three games to one and improved their season record to six games over .500.
Dean Anna's second double of the game in the bottom of the third drove in Jaff Decker to put the Padres ahead, 1-0. The double was Anna's 36th of the season, placing him in first in the Pacific Coast League. Daniel Robertson later scored on Brandon Allen's RBI groundout to extend Tucson's advantage to 2-0. Jaff Decker's two-out RBI double in the fourth brought home Chris Robinson from first base to push the lead to three runs.
Andrew Romine extended his hitting streak to 20 games in the sixth with an RBI double to center scoring the Bees first run of the game. Decker sent a solo home run into the right field bullpen in the seventh, increasing the Padres lead to 4-1. The Bees scored twice in the eighth and had the tying run on third with two outs in the ninth, but Brad Brach was able to record the final out to seal the win. The save for Brach was his second of the season.
Lane had pitched 4.1 perfect innings before Luis Rodriguez hit a double to right with one out in the fifth. The left-hander scattered six hits, three runs and one walk in 7.2 innings. Lane also struck out three batters in the game. Matt Shoemaker allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings of work and suffered the loss for Salt Lake.
