Voter registration deadline at midnight
Want a say on who will sit on Tucson's City Council? Make sure your opinion matters — register to vote. The deadline is Monday at midnight to register to cast a ballot in the Aug. 27 city primary election.
There are no contested primary races. Three Democrats — Karin Uhlich, Richard Fimbres and Steve Kozachik — are seeking reelection in November, with Republicans Ben Buehler-Garcia and Mike Polak running to unseat the Ward 3 and Ward 5 incumbents. Ward 6 Councilman Kozachik will not face an opponent in the general election.
Councilmembers are voted on by residents of their Wards in the primary, then run city-wide in the general election. Voters in Ward 3 (North Side), Ward 5 (South Side), and Ward 6 (Midtown) may cast a ballot in the primary.
Monday at midnight is the deadline to register for the primary; you can register online at ServiceArizona.com, but note that website is down for maintenance every night after 11:50 p.m.
If you are already registered, but have moved, changed your name or want to change political parties, you should register before the deadline.
For registration information, go to the Pima County Recorder's Office site or call 740-4330.
Vote-by-mail ballots will be posted Aug. 8. A polling place will be open Aug. 9-26 at the city Election Center, 800 E. 12th St.
