J.C. Scott: Downtown deals discussed in detail
Rio Nuevo Board Secretary Alberto Moore talked about the proposed $20,000 option on the Manning House and a possible partner in the deal—perhaps the University of Arizona. Questions were asked about whether the property technically falls within the primary multipurpose facilities district where the Legislature has directed money to be spent or if it's in a secondary area. He talked about how the new board members are getting along and the excitement that is being generated by new ideas.
Bruce Wheeler, a Democratic candidate for state House in LD10, is seeking re-election. He talked about reforming the tax code, turning back $514 million in tax breaks set to take effect in 2015, health care and education. He opposes the Rosemont mine and supports the permanent extension of the one-cent sales tax.
Downtown Tucson Partnership head Michael Keith talked about the Marist Collage restoration and money being spent on the Steinfeld warehouse. He gave an update on Sun Link streetcar construction and the opening of new businesses and restaurants in the downtown area.
