Libros gratis: Free kids' books at Bilingual Literacy Fair

The first 1,200 attendees at a weekend literacy event will receive free books in Spanish, as well as free backpacks. The sixth annual Feria de la Lectura will be held at the El Pueblo Neighborhood Center by the Mexican Consulate in Tucson.

The festival is organized to foster the desire to read in Spanish among Tucson's Spanish-speaking community, and to encourage literacy in both English and Spanish among young people.

The event will be held Saturday, 10 a.m.-noon at the center, 101 W. Irvington Rd.

In addition to the book giveaway, there will be story-time readings in both languages, art projects, face painting and more at the family-friendly event.
