UA stadium painting closes 6th St. Saturday
Sixth Street will be closed near the University of Arizona stadium from 5 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday and possibly Sunday.
The street will be blocked because construction crews will be painting the metal columns for Arizona Stadium's new scoreboard in the south end zone.
The closure will prevent any paint from spraying on to passing cars.
Painting should be completed in one day, but if rain interrupts the work, crews will need Sunday to finish, said Tucson Department of Transportation spokesman Michael Graham.
Electronic message boards will be in place to alert travelers of the closure. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes such as Speedway Broadway.
While Sixth Street business access is open, drivers should expect delays, Graham said.
