Three arrested on human smuggling charges
Illegal aliens lead Homeland Security agents to suspects
Three suspected human smugglers were arrested in Phoenix after a tip from illegal immigrants apprehended by Border Patrol agents, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Casa Grande Station agents interviewed 11 illegal immigrants found in the west desert Sunday and were told the group was to be picked up that day on S.R. 86 and taken to a safe house in Phoenix.
Agents watched the pick-up spot and identified an individual who was to have transported the group. Agents contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations to assist.
Authorities followed the suspect to an apartment where two additional suspected smugglers were reportedly staying. The three were arrested and a weapon was seized.
The suspects were identified as Mexican nationals who were illegally in the United States.
Homeland Security Investigations agents took custody of the suspects, one of whom will face felony prosecution for illegally re-entering the country after deportation.
