JC Scott: Expect progress on Rio Nuevo projects soon

Terry Dee, manager of the Habistore, talked about the passing of William G. Valenzuela, founder and chairman of W.G. Valenzuela Drywall & Paint Inc. and the many good things he did for Habitat for Humanity and Tucson.

Rio Nuevo Board Chairman Fletcher McCusker talked about the redevelopment district's newly approved $11 million budget. He expects progress on Rio Nuevo's West Side projects this year. He will report on that progress to state Senate President Steve Pierce within five months.

Victoria Steele, a Democratic candidate for the state House in LD9, said her top campaign issues are education, creating higher-paying jobs in a sustainable economy, and environmental protection.

Wil Cardon, who's running against Jeff Flake in the Republican primary that will pick a candidate for the U.S. Senate, stopped by to respond to accusations that one of his companies hired illegal immigrants. "I never hired an illegal alien," he said. Cardon also talked about the importance of charitable giving.
