Despite rains, Coronado Nat'l Forest still closed

The Coronado National Forest remains closed, despite recent monsoon rains, said a U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman.

Rains during the past week have not reduced the fire danger in the forest, which has been closed since June 9 because of extreme fire danger, said Heidi Schewel.

The forest will remain closed until "we get a good soaking rain," she said.

The burned areas in the forest are susceptible to flooding, Schewel said. Those areas will remain shut until they are no longer hazardous, she said.
