J.C. Scott: Shop local first

On Wednesday's edition:

We started the show with Local First Arizona's Tucson membership coordinator, Deanna Chevas. Local First Arizona is a nonprofit organization working to strengthen communities and local economies through supporting, maintaining, and celebrating locally owned businesses throughout the state of Arizona. They educate citizens, stakeholders, business leaders, and legislators about the significant environmental, economic, and cultural benefits of strong local economies. Chevas invited listeners to celebrate the 11th anniversary of National Independents Week, June 30-July 7, encouraging listeners to "go local" by supporting as many locally owned businesses as possible.

20 minutes into the show, we were joined by Tucson Weekly Editor Dan Gibson, who gave a review of this week's issue.

43 min: We interviewed Mike Feder, general manager of the Tucson Padres, who invited listeners to come out to the ballpark for this weekend's home stand and fireworks displays Thursday and Friday night.

51 min: We talked with Pima Animal Care Center Shelter Manager Justin Gallick, who gave July 4 pet safety tips and promoted adoption specials in the month of July.

70 min: Financial advisor Shelly Fishman was up next with our weekly financial segment "Your Financial Future." Fishman gave us a look at the pros and cons of annuities.

88 min: We finished the show with reporter Jeff Demand, who updated us on the Yarnell Hill Fire, including talking about a website set up to offer information on where to donate to support the victims of the wildfire south of Prescott: www.fallen19.org.
