Mexican helicopter crosses into U.S., 2 shots fired

A helicopter connected with Mexican law enforcement crossed into the United States on Thursday morning on the Tohono O'odham Indian Natio. two shots were fired from the aircraft, according to a statement from U.S. Border Patrol. 

Around 5:45 a.m., Border Patrol agents saw the helicopter cross approximately 100 yards north into Arizona about eight miles southwest of the village of San Miguel on the reservation, said the unsigned statement. 

The agents on the ground reported that the shots were not aimed at them, said one agent. They signaled the helicopter crew and the aircraft returned to Mexico. 

There were no injuries or damage to U.S. property and the incident is currently under investigation, according to Border Patrol. 

The Mexican government has apologized for the incident, KVOA reported.
