Border Patrol agent shot and wounded near Arivaca

A Border Patrol agent was shot and wounded Tuesday morning near Arivaca, authorities said.

The agent, who was not identified, was involved in a "shooting incident" on Tuesday morning around 4:30 a.m. near Chimney Canyon, said a spokesman for the Border Patrol's Tucson Sector.

The agent was wearing body armor, and was transported to a Tucson-area hospital for treatment, the spokesman said.

Several people were taken into custody in the area, but agents were continuing to search, officials said.

"This is an active shooting investigation and the situation is evolving, further information will be provided as it becomes available," the spokesman said.

The FBI and the Office of Professional Responsibility under U.S. Customs and Border Protection are conducting investigation, the spokesman said.
