Truck drivers can expect 'road checks' starting Tues.
Police agencies conducting safety inspections
Area law-enforcement agencies will be conducting annual commercial vehicle road checks Tuesday through Friday.
Truck and bus drivers can expect to be stopped and have vehicles inspected by the Pima County Sheriff's Department, and the Tucson, Oro Valley and Marana police departments during the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's 72-hour "Road Check 2012," said TPD spokeswoman Sgt. Maria Hawke.
Officers will focus on vehicle brake systems and driving fatigue prevention, and will check vehicle equipment to make sure it meets federal safety standards, Hawke said.
The annual event involves 10,000 federal, state and local officers at more than 1,500 locations nationwide, Hawke said.
