J.C. Scott: Pima County bond projects proposed
On the Monday's edition:
We started our show with Republican Ward 3 Tucson City Council candidate Ben Buehler-Garcia, who talked about El Rio Golf Course and Grand Canyon University, Rio Nuevo, business development, roads and the city's tansportation budget.
24 minutes into the show, we interviewed Arizona Education Association President Andrew Morrill, who gave his take on state education funding and school vouchers, and an upcoming state Supreme Court hearing that could have a large impact on public-school funding and the state budget. A 2000 ballot measure approved by voters requires annual funding increases for both inflation and transportation costs for schools, Morrill said.
38 min: We talked with DUI defense attorney Jim Nesci, who talked about two court rulings: one ruling from the state Supreme Court bars DUI blood tests without a warrant, while a U.S. Supreme Court decision said DNA samples can be taken from arrestees without a warrant.
50 min: We interviewed Pima County Bond Advisory Committee Chairman Lawrence Hecker, who talked about the role the committee plays in putting forth projects for the Board of Supervisors to approve. A bond proposal is expected to go to voters in 2014.
71 min: We are joined by developer Richard Studwell., who commented on the failed sale of El Rio Golf Course to Grand Canyon University, downtown development, the city budget, pension costs and the Tucson's municipal bond ratings.
