TPD offers car seat safety checks Saturday

On Saturday, the Tucson Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies will check child car seats for proper installation.

The drive-in child car seat check will take place in the parking lot of Target, 4040 N. Oracle Rd., from 9 a.m. to noon.

Certified technicians will show the proper way to install the car seats and ensure that the car seat is not on a recall list.

The agency hopes to reduce fatalities on Arizona's roadways and to increase seat belt and child car seat usage by offering the checks, according to a press release.

Eight out of ten car seats are not installed properly. Restraining young children in child car seats lowers the risk of fatal injury in a car accident by 80 percent, according to TPD.
