Tucson City Court to stay open later on Tuesdays

It won't exactly be night court, but you'll be able to catch a cast of characters trying to get straight with the law (or at least get a parking ticket problem fixed) at City Court on Tuesdays. Customer service and the Walk-in Warrant Court will stay open into the early evening beginning this week.

The last service numbers will be handed out at 6:30 p.m., a city spokeswoman said, and staff will serve everyone issued a number.

City Court is normally open 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Officials "will track use of services offered during extended hours and determine whether the use merits offering extended hours on additional days of the week," said Lane Mandle. "Tuesdays were selected for the initial offering of the extended hours as the Tuesday after a three-day weekend is busier than normal.

Just don't try to take a number from the fire alarm at Tucson City Court. The judge probably wouldn't be too pleased.
