TFD douses car fire in Midtown neighborhood
As Tucson firefighters worked to knock down and staunch the flames, an electrical component exploded and sent bits of plastic into the air, as fire consumed a late-model Ford Focus in a North University neighborhood Thursday morning.
The driver, a 20-year-old student, was unharmed by the flames, suffering only a minor burn to one finger. She said that just after she dropped off her sister at Salpointe Catholic High School around 8 a.m, she smelled smoke and pulled over. Soon, she saw flames and she quickly abandoned the vehicle, leaving her purse and other personal belongings in the car.
The car was almost completely destroyed by the fire.
