Border Patrol seizes more than 2 tons of pot
More than 2,000 pounds found in abandoned vehicle
Border Patrol agents seized more than 2 tons of marijuana over the weekend in Southern Arizona.
Agents found a stolen SUV, loaded with more than 2,000 pounds of pot, abandoned on the Tohono O’odham Reservation near Ajo. The load, discovered on Friday, had an estimated value of $1 million, the Border Patrol said in a press release.
On Sunday, agents detected backpackers carrying 900 pounds of marijuana near the Silverbell Mine. The group fled into the desert as agents approached. That load had an estimated value of $450,000, the agency said.
Agents also seized more than 600 pounds of the drug over the weekend near Ajo and more than a 1,000 pounds in two separate incidents near Sonoita.
