Border Patrol accepting thousands of applications

  • Paul Ingram/TucsonSentinel.com

Aiming to recruit about 1,600 additional agents by fall, the Border Patrol is accepting applications from up to 16,000 potential recruits through the end of May. New agents are paid $39,000-$50,000.

BP is hiring for agents to patrol the U.S.-Mexico border, including in the Tucson and Yuma sectors. Initial assignments are not made to duty stations within 100 miles of a new agents' pre-employment home, under agency policy. Duty stations in Arizona include Ajo, Blythe, Casa Grande, Douglas, Naco, Nogales, Sonoita, Tucson, Wellton, Willcox, and Yuma.

Those interested can apply online.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens under age 37, although military veterans older than 37 may apply.

New hires must attend an eight-week boot camp in Artesia, N.M.
