Pima County and TMC team to provide free swim lessons

Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation, along with the TMC Vest It UP! program, will provide 800 free swim lessons to children at three county locations. All children participating in the program will also receive a free U.S. Coast Guard approved lifejacket.

Funded by the TMC Foundation and the Children’s Miracle Network, the free swim lessons are part of an overall water safety effort to teach children proper swimming techniques and how to be safe in and around water.

“Drowning is 100 percent preventable," said Grant Bourguet, program manager at Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation. "Offering free swimming lessons to the community is critically important to reducing the risk of a future drowning.”

The swim program will be held at the following locations:

Kino Pool, 2805 E. Ajo Way

Los Niños Pool, 5432 S. Bryant Ave.

Flowing Wells Pool, 4545 N. La Cholla Blvd.

Registration for June swim lessons begins 6 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, and registration for July lessons begins 6 a.m., Tuesday, June 14. Registration is on a first come, first served basis.
