Sabino Canyon asks for public input on recreation plans
The U.S. Forest Service is asking for public input about new recreation plans at Sabino Canyon. The meeting will be held Thursday at the Sabino Canyon Visitor Center from 6-8 p.m.
Sabino Canyon's most recent recreation concept plan was developed 20 years ago.
"Many facilities, programs, and concepts have become outdated," said Heidi Schewel of the Forest Service in a press release.
Visitor recommendations compiled over the years were used to develop proposed additions to the park that will be discussed at the meeting.
These proposals include: parking and trailhead facilities north of Sabino Canyon, a new scenic trail on the southeast side of Sabino Creek which would provide emergency access in times of flooding, closing off redundant trails, an eco-friendly transportation system including new bicycle routes, and an expanded visitor center.
