Convicted felon gets 51 months for illegal re-entry

A Zacatecas, Mexico, man was sentenced to 51 months in jail for illegal re-entry of a felon, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Friday.

Manuel Muñoz Viramontes, 42, who was sentenced on March 22, was apprehend in March 2011 near Douglas, the Border Patrol said.

During processing, agents learned that Muñoz has a 2010 conviction for felony attempted aggravated assault in Maricopa County, the Border Patrol said.

After serving his sentence, Muñoz will be formally removed from the United States and will be banned for life from all legalization proceedings, the Border Patrol said.
