Walk the loop

5k walk Saturday to fight lupus

A five kilometer walk around Reid Park's golf courses Saturday will benefit lupus patients and fund research to fight the disease.

The Southern Arizona Lupus Foundation will host the 10th annual Walk the Loop, which is set to include a raffle, drinks, prizes and a jumping castle, according to a press release.

Registration starts at 7:15 a.m. and the walk begins at 8:30 a.m.

Register early with a $25 donation online at www.lupus-az.org, in person at any El Charro Café, or at the Lupus Foundation, 4602 E. Grant Rd. Registration on Saturday will run $30.

All of the proceeds from the event will be used for research, assistance to Southern Arizona lupus patients and public health education about the disease.

Lupus is a a non-contagious chronic autoimmune disease that can affect any part of the body. Symptoms can include abnormal blood clotting, pain and hair loss, according to the Lupus Foundation of America. The disease can affect anyone but is more likely to occur in non-white females. If left untreated lupus can cause severe organ damage and death.

Check in on Saturday morning will be at Reid Park’s Ramada 31, just west of Hi Corbett Field.
