Man gets 33 months for illegal re-entry

A 23-year-old Mexican man was sentenced to 33 months in prison for illegal re-entry of a felon, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Thursday.

Eliazar Gonzalez Leal, of Tlapa, Guerrero, was apprehended by Tucson Station Border Patrol agents in June, the Border Patrol said.

During processing, agents found that Gonzalez was convicted of third-degree rape in Adams County, Wash. Gonzalez was deported in May 2011, the Border Patrol said.

Gonzalez was sentenced for illegal re-entry on Feb. 28. After serving his sentence, he will be formally removed and will be banned for life from all legalization processes, the Border Patrol said.
