Toss household hazardous waste at Saturday event

Got cans of old paint, a broken VCR or dead car battery cluttering up your garage? Drop them off at a household hazardous waste collection on Saturday morning.

Pima County and the City of Tucson are holding a drop-off from 8 a.m.-noon. Residents can safely dispose of automotive fluids, auto and rechargeable batteries from electronics equipment, toxic cleaning products, lawn and garden products, fluorescent lamps, paints, solvents and computer equipment for no fee at Himmel Park, 1000 N. Tucson Blvd. For monitors without computers, a $2 fee will be charged.

The events are held at various locations on the first and second Saturdays of every month. Ninety-eight percent of the materials collected are reused or recycled, said Cristina Polsgrove, a spokeswoman for the city's Environmental Services Department. More information is available at www.tucsonaz.gov/hhw
