Video: Tucson mail taking long, strange trip after Cherrybell shutdown
Tucson's main post office on Cherrybell Stravenue stopped processing mail on Jan. 5. This means mail sent from a Tucson address to another across town must take a trip north to Phoenix and back in order to be delivered. Mail sent from all Southern Arizona addresses is now sorted in Phoenix.
The Postal Service has been operating under a congressional mandate that it prefund all of its retiree health benefits for decades to come, leading to drastic budget shortfalls on paper, and forcing the closure of sorting centers and post offices across the country.
