Immigrants now can check work eligibility online

E-Verify Self Check system goes nationwide

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is now offering job hunters nationwide a Self Check employment eligibility tool through its website, the agency announced Tuesday.

Many employers use the E-Verify system to check an applicant's status. Those seeking work may be able to head off any concerns by confirming eligibility with E-Verify's Self Check and get help in correcting any potential discrepancies, USCIS said.

USCIS has taken the free online service nationwide. It is available in Spanish and English for all 50 states, Washington D.C., Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands.

To access the tool, visit USCIS' Self Check page.
