Marana prison riot injures 13

A private prison in Marana remains locked down after a disturbance involving as many as 150 inmates injured a staff member and 12 prisoners.

The fight broke out before 10 p.m. Wednesday and was contained with an hour, said the Department of Corrections in a news release.

A 20-member unit from the state prison complex in Tucson responded to quell the disturbance.

The Marana Community Correctional Treatment Facility, 12610 West Silverbell Road, houses 500 Arizona minimum security inmates and is owned and operated by Management and Training Corp., based in Centerville, Utah.

The one MTC staff member and 12 inmates were treated onsite, said DOC.

The cause of the fight is under investigation.
