Man gets 33 months for illegal entry
Zacatecas man had conviction in Calif. for lewd acts with a child
A 53-year-old Mexican man was sentenced to 33 months in prison for illegal re-entry of a felon into the United States, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Friday.
Marcial Avilar Perez, of Zacatecas, was arrested by Border Patrol agents when he tried to re-enter the United States in September, the Border Patrol said.
During a background check, agents discovered that Avilar was convicted in 1990 for lewd acts against a child under 14 in Riverside County, Calif, for which he was sentenced to one year in prison.
Following his current sentence, he will be formally removed from the country and banned for life from all legalization proceedings, the Border Patrol said.
