If your love life is more trash than flash, the city of Tucson has a treat for you: a tour of the Los Reales Landfill.

On Valentine's Day.

Yes, you read that right.

If you've been looking for love in all the wrong places, maybe you just haven't dug deeply enough.

The city's Environmental Services Department will offer a nearly four-hour tour of the landfill and ReCommunity recycling center next Thursday morning.

"Participants will get a ‘behind the scenes’ view and learn how (Environmental Services) operates the landfill and how recyclables collected in the blue barrel are sorted and marketed," spokeswoman Cristina Polsgrove said.

"Show your love by booking your honey and yourself for a tour of the landfill," she said in a news release.

The tour will include a look at the process of sorting recyclables, how the landfill protects groundwater and how methane gas is used as an energy source.

Because that latter point is exactly what you want to cover on Valentine's Day.

Tour participants will meet in the upper level parking lot at 4004 S. Park Avenue at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The tour will be complete by 12:15 p.m., Polsgrove said. Those taking the tour should wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, hats and sunscreen. Drinking water will be provided. The tour is not for children younger than age 14.

To reserve a seat, call 791-3175 by next Tuesday.

I'll be sure to ask my wife if our Valentine's date can be in the morning.
