Man gets 3 years for being in U.S. illegally
Guatemalan had prior conviction in Calif.
A 27-year-old Guatemalan man was sentenced to more than three years in jail for illegal re-entry of felon, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Friday.
Elias Natanael Santos Milian, of Guatemala City, was apprehended by the Tucson Sector Border Patrol in April. During processing, agents found Santos had a 2010 conviction in Los Angeles for sexual battery and was sentenced to one year in prison, the Border Patrol said.
Santos' Arizona case was turned over to the U.S. Attorney's Office for federal prosecution. He was sentenced to 37 months on Jan. 23, the Border Patrol said.
Following his sentence, Santos will be formally removed from the United States and will be banned for life from all legalization processes, the Border Patrol said.
