Updated: Weather closes dozens of schools across Southern Arizona

Freezing temperatures, broken water pipes and a natural gas shortage have led school districts across Southern Arizona to cancel Friday's classes at dozens of schools.

The following Tucson Unified School District schools will be closed Friday:

Elementary schools

  • Banks
  • Blenman
  • Booth-Fickett
  • Borman
  • Borton
  • Carrillo
  • Cavett
  • Collier
  • Corbett
  • Ft. Lowell/Townsend
  • Dietz
  • Gale
  • Howell
  • Hughes
  • Lawrence
  • Lynn-Urquides
  • Menlo Park
  • Miller
  • Roberts/Naylor
  • Ochoa
  • Schumaker
  • Soleng Tom
  • Warren

Middle/K-8 schools

  • Booth-Fickett
  • Doolen
  • Maxwell
  • Roberts/Naylor
  • Ft. Lowell/Townsend
  • Pistor
  • Utterback
  • Vail
  • Valencia
  • Wakefield

High schools

  • Sabino

Alternative programs

  • Agave
  • Broadway Bridge
  • PACE
  • PASS
  • TAPP

TUSD said it will update the closure list before 6 a.m. Friday.

Other districts

The following schools will be closed Friday:

  • Academy of Tucson Middle School and High School
  • Douglas public schools
  • Huachuca City public schools
  • Redeemer Lutheran Church and School
  • Sahuarita School District schools
  • Sierra Vista public schools
  • St. Michael's Parish Day School
  • Tanque Verde Unified School District schools
  • Vail School District: Cottonwood Elementary School, Desert Sky Middle School, Desert Willow Elementary School, Mesquite Elementary School, Ocotillo Ridge Elementary School

These schools will open late Friday:

  • Desert View and Sunnyside High Schools will start at 9:25 a.m., and dismiss at the regular times.
