"You can make Arizona's centennial special for one of 20 homeless animals at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona starting Friday.

The Centennial Club animals have been at the center for 100 days or more. In celebration of Arizona's statehood in 1912, Centennial Club members will be available for a special rate of $19 for dogs and $12 for cats. Usually, adult dogs and cats cost $80 to adopt.

Every member of the Centennial Club is ready for a "forever home."

Sweet and shy Misty the cat has been living among the staff for almost a year. Pebbles was found as a stray puppy and is now 7 months old. Hank has lived with a foster family but is ready to settle down for the long run, said HSSA spokeswoman Lyndsay Bruno.

Each pet is looking for love and commitment for years to come. They can be adopted from Friday through Tuesday — Arizona's centennial — at the discounted prices, Bruno said.

For more information call 327-6088, go to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona's website or visit the shelter at 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd.
