Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents seized nearly a ton of marijuana from an abandoned vehicle in the West Desert early Thursday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.

Casa Grande Station agents patrolling in the West Desert found off-road tire tracks that led to a wash where an SUV was found covered by a camouflage tarp, the Border Patrol said.

The agents found 100 bundles of pot inside the SUV. The drugs weighed 1,878 pounds and are worth $993,000, the Border Patrol said.

The vehicle was seized and the marijuana was to be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Border Patrol said.
