Tucson Police Department detectives have tentatively identified remains found in the Pinal County desert as missing 21-year-old Jordan A. "JP" Peterson.

Peterson, of the 0-100 block of S. Bella Vista Drive, went missing on Nov. 16. He told his roomate he would return later that evening, but was never heard from again, said Sgt. Matt Ronstadt, a TPD spokesman.

His truck was found by the Marana Police Department on Nov. 18.

The case has now been classified as a homicide, Ronstadt said.

After interviewing witnesses and following leads, detectives found the remains Saturday in an advanced state of decomposition, Ronstadt said.

Next of kin have been notified, he said.

An autopsy will be performed to positively identify the remains and to determine the cause of death, Ronstadt said.

Police ask anyone with information about Peterson and the case to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
