DUI suspect dies after night in Bisbee jail
A 78-year-old man was found unresponsive Monday after a night in the Cochise County Jail, officials said. John H. O'Connor, who'd been arrested on DUI charges, was declared dead at a nearby hospital.
O'Connor had been booked into the jail by the Tombstone Marshal's Office around midnight, said a Cochise County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.
He was found unresponsive in his holding cell at 9:17 a.m., said CCSO's Carol Capas.
"Medical efforts were undertaken as an ambulance was requested. Mr. O'Connor was transported to Copper Queen Hospital where he was pronounced deceased," she said in a news release.
"No foul play is suspected at this time," she said. CCSO detectives are conducting an investigation. The cause of O'Connor's death has not been established; an autopsy will be conducted.
