Travel restrictions and road closures

The Santa Cruz River Park underpasses at Grant Road will be closed intermittently between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays beginning Monday for the installation of gas lines, Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation announced. Starting Monday, drivers will be detoured from one underpass to the other, the department said.

Also beginning Monday, the eastbound curb lane on Tanque Verde Road and the right left turn lane on southbound Sabino Canyon Road, will be closed for installation of a storm drain at the intersection.  Crews will be working 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, but the lanes will remain closed round-the-clock everyday for three weeks, the Tucson Department of Transportation said.

Eighth Street Drainage Improvement project

The project extends from Sixth Avenue on the west to Third Avenue on the east and Sixth Street on the north to Stevens Avenue on the south.

Work will start on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., in addition to the regular weekday work schedule. Saturday work will take place for the next several weeks.

Through Friday, Fourth Avenue will be reduced to one travel lane between Sixth and Eighth Streets while the contractor installs underground utilities in the area. From 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. traffic will be directed to alternate one-way travel through the work area.  The contractor will open the road to two lanes each night.  Most parking between Sixth and Eighth streets will be restricted during this phase of work.

Other areas affected by the project:

  • The intersection of Fifth Avenue/Eighth Street is closed until mid-February.
  • Seventh Street, between Sixth and Arizona avenues, is closed until mid-February.
  • The intersection of Eighth Street/Herbert Avenue will be closed for approximately three months.
  • The intersection of Fifth Avenue/Seventh Street is closed through mid-January. There is access to businesses.
  • From Tuesday until Friday, Third Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Sixth and Eighth streets. Access to homes in the area will be maintained.
  • Traffic control on Herbert and Hoff avenues, between Sixth and Ninth streets, has been changed to allow for two-way travel.
  • Business and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the work area.
