PCC to celebrate freedom with Festival of Democracy
Event includes readings from Constitution, music
Inspired by Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ Congress on Your Corner events, like the one she held on Jan. 8, 2011, Pima Community College will celebrate Giffords, the Constitution and the community with a Festival of Democracy on Saturday at the school’s West Campus.
Starting at 8:45 a.m., Tucsonans will read from the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, said PCC spokesman and former Giffords’ staffer C.J. Karamargin in a press release.
PCC employee Ross Zimmerman, father of Gabe Zimmerman — the Giffords’ aide who was killed in the Jan. 8 shootings, will be among those reading from the historic documents, Karamargin said.
The event kicks off at 8 a.m. with a 5k walk/run and includes a health fair, presentations by first responders, art activities, a concert by Fort Huachuca’s 62nd Army Band, and a sing-along of patriotic songs.
