New Year's DUIs dampen spirits of 65 drivers
The Southern Arizona DUI Task Force arrested 65 drivers who were charged with drunk driving over New Year's. Officers handed out 441 other tickets, and found 21 suspected underage drinkers on Sunday and Monday.
A total of 154 officers were deployed over the two nights, said Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman Thomas Peine. Officers from PCSD and the Tucson Police Department, Marana Police Department, University of Arizona Police Department, Tucson Airport Authority Police Department, the National Park Service, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety all participated, Peine said.
Out of 756 stops, officers encountered 58 designated drivers, he said Wednesday.
Blood-alcohol data for those arrested was not yet available, he said.
