Lawsuit immunity for crime victims passed by voters

Voters on Tuesday approved a ballot measure aimed at protecting crime victims from being sued by someone harmed while committing or fleeing from the scene of a felony. Unofficial returns showed Proposition 114 leading by a wide margin.

This is one that the voters got right. It seems like good-old-fashioned common sense to me that was long overdue.

There are no known cases in Arizona where Proposition 114 would have applied.

Perhaps, but let’s not figuratively close the barn door after the horse got out. This has been a problem in other communities, and it is good that we’re getting ahead of it before it happens here.

Where it did happen, though, I personally don’t blame the criminals or their attorneys…I blame the stupid juries that allow lawsuits such as these to be successful.
